Disney Billboards: More Than Meets The Eye

BILBOR398777When was the view site... last time you looked at a billboard — I mean really looked? Ever spot a facet of one that you missed at first glance? Something that made it pop? When it comes to Disney theme park billboards, bet you didn’t realize all that’s entailed into making them so exceptional, filled with sly references and artfully hidden gems. Well, those creative whizzes at Disney’s Yellow Shoes Creative Group know how to ensure they don’t just look amazing and enticing, but also tell a story. But why go the extra mile? “We hope to remind guests of how much fun they had on the attractions or that they create a sense of anticipation to want to go on them if they haven’t,” explains Yellow Shoes Senior Art Director Steve Carsella. “Having all the details in the billboards is in line with a Disney theme park experience by adding something special wherever you look.” For instance, on one of the latest Expedition Everest billboards, subtle yet oh-so-clever tidbits include the Yeti’s footprints in what looks like random texture in the snow, an authentic Tibetan carving embedded in the “T” in the word “EVEREST” and the Yeti’s shadow disguised as a rock cropping. Meanwhile, a new Twilight Zone Tower of Terror board includes a falling brick that is actually an old-timey radio that’s a prop from the attraction’s queue and a Hidden Mickey stamped on another brick. When designing and implementing billboards, there are general creative tenets that are taken into consideration, of course. Does it accurately depict the attraction? Is it readable? Does it feel cinematic? Are there strong details that don’t impede the message? But it takes that Disney magic of adding just enough originality and ingenuity that assures they are always surprising, dynamic and uncommon. “I think it follows in the steps of Walt himself to pay attention to the details and to offer our guests something out of the ordinary,” Steve says. So now that you know, maybe next time you’ll take the time to appreciate all the thought and effort that go into Disney billboards. Just wait until it’s safe to check them out! Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith Turns 15 At Walt Disney World Resort

ROCKCOA1564614521Today we’re celebrating the anniversary of one of my favorite attractions – Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith . The attraction originally opened its doors at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on July 29, 1999. In case you haven’t experienced it yet, the attraction lets you tour G-Force Records, the music studio where Aerosmith is holding a recording session. When the band heads out to a show, they invite you to travel to the show in a super-stretch limo that speeds from 0-57 mph in just 2.8 seconds. Better yet – each limo is equipped with an audio system consisting of 125 speakers, 24 sub-woofers and more than 32k watts of audio amplifier output power and each car broadcasts different Aerosmith songs. In honor of today’s anniversary, here are 15 fun facts about the attraction: The attraction’s grand opening on July 29, 1999 featured a dedication ceremony with Aerosmith. The giant electric guitar that serves as the attraction’s icon measures 40 feet tall. There are more than 900 speakers throughout the attraction. The attraction’s track measures 3,403 feet. Elements of the attraction were manufactured as far away as Netherlands and Germany. Aerosmith band members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry took part in re-recordings for the attraction. The entire band appears in the attraction’s preshow film. The band’s manager who appears in the preshow was played by actress Illeana Douglas. The DJ who is “broadcasting live” from the Aerosmith concert is classic rock DJ Uncle Joe Benson. The look of the super-stretch limo was influenced by the 1962-era Cadillac. Each super-stretch limo can fit 24 passengers. Each guest is surrounded by five speakers – four around the head and one subwoofer under the seat. Each vehicle features a different Aerosmith song or medley. Tracks are: “Nine Lives”; “Sweet Emotion”; a “Back in the Saddle”/”Dude Looks Like a Lady” medley; a “Love in an Elevator”/”Walk This Way” medley; and a “Young Lust”/”F.I.N.E.”/”Love in an Elevator” medley. Guests experience a g-force between 4-5 entering the first inversion on the track. The attraction was the first homepage coaster at Walt Disney World Resort to feature multiple inversions. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster opened at Walt Disney Studios Park (Paris) in 2002. There, it’s called “Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster avec Aerosmith.” Which is your favorite song to take a ride to? Marvel Cranks Up Sarcasm And 70s Sound For 'guardians Of Galaxy' - Yahoo News

Gayapolis News - Ten Things You Didn't Know About Disney World

Even before opening, Marvel confirmed last weekend that "Guardians of the Galaxy 2" will be released in July 2017 and Gunn has been invited back to direct. BAND OF MISFITS The film opens with a 1980s Walkman that belongs to Peter, an earthling boy soon swept up to space after his mother dies of cancer. It plays a cassette she made for him with her favorite songs from the 1970s, like 10cc's "I'm Not in Love." In space, a grown-up Peter is a cocky yet sensitive thief who connects to his past through the Walkman and the "Awesome Mix" tape. He has the bad fortune of pilfering an orb that has planet-destroying powers coveted by the galaxy's evil warlords. Peter, who also goes by Star-Lord, steps up to lead a rag-tag army to save the world, including the cynical Rocket (the voice of Bradley Cooper) and his sidekick, the humanoid tree Groot, whose only words voiced by Vin Diesel are "I am Groot." Zoe Saldana, the "Avatar" actress who plays the green assassin Gamora and the straightwoman in the website goofy gang, said the film is different from others in the action adventure genre because the characters are misfits rather than heroes. "What brings them together is that huge sense of loss, of always losing something or being considered a loser in life," said Saldana. For Pratt, known as the lovable goofball Andy on television's "Parks and Recreation," the role of Peter is a huge step up, one he was not quite sure he could take. "I was getting more work than before by playing the schlubby sidekick characters - the real man, the dude who has thrown vanity aside and let himself go," said Pratt, once 35 pounds overweight but now a physically fit, strapping star.

From its signature rides to its extravagant parades and fireworks, no other amusement park does it quite like Disney. Its unique offerings go well beyond that, however. Here are some unique things that you never thought you'd find at an amusement park. 1. Central Florida's only AAA Five-Diamond restaurant Believe it or not, you can dine at a AAA Five-Diamond restaurant in the middle of a theme park resort. A huge departure from the usual theme park restaurant, the super upscale Victoria & Albert's offers a rotating menu and a posh chef's table, from which you can observe the inner workings of the kitchen. Of course, all the fanciness comes at a price. A prix fixe dinner starts at $135 per guest. 2.

Wonderground Gallery Joins Marketplace Co-op At Downtown Disney Marketplace

dissss843723 One of my favorite places to shop at Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort in California is the WonderGround Gallery . Opened in June 2012 , the distinctive and eclectic contemporary art location showcases unique art collections by some incredibly talented artists. I have great news for fans who love this location like I do. A small assortment of WonderGround Gallery items was recently added to the Marketplace Co-Op in Downtown Disney Marketplace . Located just inside the main entrance of the shop, this new addition contains a handful of prints, mugs, magnets, postcards and more from various artists originally featured in the California location. You may recall that the Marketplace Co-Op was designed to be a testing space for new retail products, store concepts and guest experiences. This small addition is a great example of the flexible space inside the location. During my recent visit, I saw a new “Welcome” sign inside the shop (just look at those letters!). I love the “The Village Marketplace Co-Operative” label found on the side of the orange crates. Benches were also added to the center area between the boutiques.
